What vaccination records councils expect you to keep

Accurate vaccination records are the cornerstone of AAL compliance. Missing booster dates or incomplete certificates are among the most common reasons for inspection failure.

Core Vaccination Requirements

Standard UK licence conditions require proof of protection against:

  • Canine Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus (DHP): Usually required as a primary course with boosters every 3 years.
  • Leptospirosis (L2 or L4): Requires annual boosters as protection levels drop faster.

Many local authorities also strongly recommend or require Canine Infectious Bronchitis (Kennel Cough), though it is often considered 'non-core' by some veterinarians unless the dog is entering a high-density boarding environment.

Titer Testing & Retention

Some councils accept titer testing as proof of immunity for DHP, but rarely for Leptospirosis. Always check your specific local authority's guidance on titer acceptance.

Statutory records for all dogs, including their vaccination status during their stay, must be retained for at least 3 years after their last visit.
