Council inspections can be daunting, but preparation is key. Use this document-by-document checklist to ensure you are audit-ready.
Documentation Checklist
Registered vet details for every dog currently on site
Complete vaccination register (DHP, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus)
Daily welfare check logs (Schedule 2, para 9.13)
Safe storage and use of medicines (Schedule 2, para 9.9)
Isolation procedures (Schedule 2, para 9(3))
Emergency plan (Schedule 2, para 10.1)
Risk assessments for all premises and activities
Staff training log and qualification certificates
Data retention policy (confirming 3-year record keeping)
Room-by-Room Walkthrough
Inspectors will also walk through your premises to check:
- Ventilation: Proper air flow in all sleeping and exercise areas.
- Temperature: Adequate heating/cooling with visible thermometers.
- Cleanliness: Surfaces must be non-porous and easily disinfected.
- Isolation: A dedicated, separate area for dogs showing signs of illness.
